Dal Khichdi

I looked at a couple of links here before making Dal Khichdi.

This is what I ended up doing though.. this served Dad and me.. πŸ˜€

1) Cut 1 small onion and 1/2 potato into very small pieces
2) 1/2 measure rice and a few spoons dal both pressure cooked. Make sure you wash both well before usage
3) Fry Jeera and Rai till they splutter
4) Fry the potato for a while till they’re sort of half cooked
5) Add the Onion and fry along with the potato
6) Cut a few chillies length wise and fry along with the onion and potato
7) Add a little salt, chilly powder, haldi and garam masala to this mixture and stir fry until the veggies and the masala’s are fully blended together. I do this coz frying chilly powder separately causes me to cough very badly
8) Add the cooked Dal and mix with veggies. Make sure you add a little water, else the Dal sticks to the bottom of the frying pan and is a pain to clean.
9) Add the rice as well and mix till whole mixture is even.
10) Add a little Dry Mango powder, Lime juice or even a little Citric Acid dissolved in water.
11) Garnish with corriander leaves. Make sure you use only the leaves. Cut the stalk off; its not cool.
12) Eatable as is or serve with Raita/Papad/Any veggie πŸ™‚
